Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about digital footprint discovery, breach monitoring, and managing your details with confidence

How does In The Event Of work?
In The Event Of helps you understand where your personal data lives, spot breach exposure, and manage account changes during major life events. You can connect supported email accounts like Gmail or Outlook to scan for account-related email metadata, discover services linked to you, and surface relevant breaches. We then organise what we find into a clearer digital footprint, guided actions, and security workflows inside your dashboard.
Do you automatically update my accounts?
Not today. We help you discover accounts, track breach exposure, and organise what needs attention, but you still make changes directly with each company. That means you stay in control of sensitive updates like passwords, contact details, and personal information. Over time, we may add more assisted or automated actions for specific services where it can be done safely.
What data do you collect from Google?
It depends on what you choose to connect. If you use Google Sign-In, we receive basic account information such as your name, email address, and profile photo to create or access your account. If you separately choose to connect Gmail scanning, we access email metadata only - for example sender addresses, subject lines, labels, and timestamps - so we can identify services linked to you and detect relevant account or breach signals. We do not use Gmail scanning to read the body of your emails.
Do I have to use Google to sign up?
No. You can sign up using your email address and password, or continue with Google or Microsoft. Connecting Gmail or Outlook for scanning is also optional and separate from how you sign in.
Is my data secure?
Yes. We use encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access controls, and additional protections around sensitive actions. We also run ongoing security reviews and hardening work as the product evolves. If you connect Gmail or Outlook, access is permission-based and can be revoked by you at any time.
What accounts can you help me find or manage?
We help you identify and organise accounts across banks, utilities, subscriptions, government services, retailers, travel, work tools, and many other platforms. Your footprint can come from manual additions, account discovery, and supported email scanning signals. The goal is to give you a clearer picture of where your personal data is spread across the internet.
How much does it cost?
In The Event Of offers a free experience to get started, with paid protection plans for deeper monitoring and response features. Our current paid pricing is A$10/month or A$99/year, with a 14-day free trial on the monthly plan. You can view the latest details on our pricing page.
Can I control what gets shared or scanned?
Yes. You decide which providers to connect, which journeys to use, and what actions to take. Email scanning is opt-in, and you can disconnect providers at any time. We're building the product so you get more visibility and control over your digital footprint, not less.
Are Gmail and Outlook scanning available now?
Yes, supported email scanning is now part of the product for connected accounts. When enabled, it helps identify services linked to you and supports breach and footprint monitoring workflows. Availability can still depend on provider permissions, connection status, and the specific environment you're using.
How is this different from a password manager or breach checker?
Password managers help you store credentials. Breach checkers usually tell you whether a specific email appeared in a known leak. In The Event Of is broader: it helps you map your digital footprint, discover linked accounts, understand breach exposure, and work through what to do next, especially during high-stress life events like moving, getting hacked, or changing key personal details.
